SPTs are taken in overburden until bedrock is proven. Once a failure is found in bedrock by SPT, rotary coring is used to determine rock formation and quality at specific drill depths.
Core samples are taken away. These are laboratory tested and the results logged by a geo-environmental engineer. The necessary reports are then created about specific boreholes.
In some cases, open holing techniques are carried out using drag bits, tricone rock rollers or PCD bits. This is a more cost-effective method as it provides an instant insight into strata by bringing up deposits from rock cuttings via air or water flush drilling.
Air Flush or Water Flush Drilling?
We specialise in both air flush and water flush drilling, using a variety of compressors and water pumps. The best flushing method to use is determined by whether coal seams have been found in previous drill records.
